I've got a 67 Farmall 656D Hydro. And had the same problem as
you describe after changing the bottom filter and Hy-tran. After
a day and a half of it not moving no matter what I did, I called
the guy I bought it from to see if he had any thoughts. He told
me to jack up one wheel and put it in high range and work the
speed control lever in reverse while someone spins the tire in
reverse. After you get it moving in reverse (it will be slugish at
first) do the same for forward.
I want to empahsize extreem caution when doing this. Don't
just jack up the tractor, block it up and remain seated on the
tractor and have someone help you. Do not let anyone stand in
front of or behind the tractor when doing this. When my pump
finally did prime I was in high range at about 1400 rpms and the
speed control nearly all the way forward. The left wheel of the
tractor was jacked up about 3". I was standing on the tractor,
spinning the wheel with my left foot. When the pump primed the
torque threw me off balance and the rear wheel nearly pulled me
off the tractor. If I wasn't holding onto the steering wheel with
my left hand things might not have turned out as well.
After my knees quit knocking and the hydo was working I got
off the tractor and looked at the jack, it was hanging on by half
an inch and the wheel had scuffed the ground from the torque. I
still get chills thinking about how close my own stupidity came
to getting me into some serious trouble.
The 656 has been running great ever since. Starts like a
champ. It does burn some oil and may have an overhaul in its
future, but it has all the power I need and until it doesn't I'll keep
checking the oil and running it.

Brian
