Clutch release bearing (throwout bearing) has pressure on it when the pedal is pushed and it is delivering pressure to the fingers of the pressure plate over the clutch disc. Dry, rusted, or otherwise worn balls in the ball bearing will make noise, but only while the clutch pedal is depressed. Your leaping forward could be a condition where the balls have desinigrated and the thickness of the bearing is now thinner (intermittently as the worn balls flop around in there)which releases pressure on the springs and allows the pressure plate to contact the clutch disc and apply torque to the tranny. Best get it fixed pronto. Mark
