When a 6 volt battery won't turn the engine, I can almost always bet the problem is because of cables and/or connections. First of all, check your cables. A common thing I find is people going to the nearest auto parts store and buying a set of nice shiny 12 volt cables. They just won't work! These cables are too thin. Another thing to check is the connections. Check especially at the frame ground. Everythng must be clean and tight. A 6 volt system needs to provide twice the current. Every little imperfection with the installation will come back and haunt you.
