I have successfully run my 'H' on jet fuel. When properly warmed up it doesn't smoke and apart from a slight drop in power it runs much the same as on gas. People used to turn their heads when they smelt kerosene exhaust. I don't know what octane rating jet fuel kerosene is but it appears to have had no adverse effects on the engine. I was lucky that the heat control valve on the manifold was already in the mid position, generally they are seized solid in the cool position for operation on gas. However, it is a bit of a pain having to adjust the shutters to keep the needle on the temperature gauge at the top end of the green segment, which is what the instruction manual advises. The fuel had been contaminated by water and was condemned for aircraft use but with the water separated from it there was nothing wrong with it for burning in the tractor. Unfortunately, it has all gone and I am back to using gas.
