Dale - Here's a thought on the manifold butterfly: You may be able to check butterfly operation by removing the ignition switch cover on the front end of the manifold. Inside there's a cam on the end of the butterfly shaft that works the switch. Check to see the cam rotates 90 deg when the decompression lever is stroked. If it does not the starting linkage needs attention!
