years ago i bought an old chevelle with a canister oil filter, and every time i changed the oil and pulled the can it had about 1/2 inch of sludge in the bottom,so i bumped my oil changes up to 1500 miles from 2500 and after that i started getting less and less sludge til it was finally gone and then it never came back.when i started i was running valvoline and then i switched to IH low ash 30wt .i tore that engine down and the only sludge i found was on the threads of the main and head bolts.my suggestion would be to start changing it more often and make sure its hot when you dump it,you may get hot fingers doing it but you get lots more crap out.
