How do the pistons come out, top or bottom

I am working on an old red cub. To make a long story short, its sat for over a year out in the weather and has accumulated moisture(rust) on the bottom of the #2 and #3 piston skirts where they were below the cylinder walls, now the motor wont turn over when this hits the cylinder walls. I am working on this for a friend and dont know a lot about them but i have driven #1 piston up until the rod at the bearing hits the cylinder???? Do they come out the top or bottom?? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
