Cub Battery

I have a Cub that is between a 1959 to 1963 I am told. It still has the 6 volt system and I plan on keeping it. The ground cable is missing. Where would the cable have originaly been attached to the housing, and is this a positive or negative ground. I have been told both ways by parts store people and frankly dont trust them. I also went to tractor supply and looked at the I.T. manuals they sell for 27.00. I didnt have any electrical in it other than ignition and it was only about 20 pages long and didnt seem to cover half of what other models manuals seemed to have. Any suggestions on good comprehensive manuals would be appreciated. Thanks, David.
