A Delco will squeeze under there, but you'll need to devise a way to tighten the belt. Altho' I'm using one by just buying the right length belt, and having no other adjustment. I turned the generator bracket upside down and put in a long bolt for the alternator to sit on. Over on the left of this page under the Articles heading is some good information on 12 volt conversion. Some people have used a slightly smaller alternator such as made by Hitachi. I got one from NAPA, and the part #was 213-8130. Costs more than the Delco....$82. since I didn't have a core to return.
