Okay, so, thinking I had all the information I needed, I took the PTO assembly (w/belt pulley) from a bone-yard Super A to put on my very early B. I swapped the spline shaft with another guy who wanted the newer one so I have the correct 2-lug type to mate to the B. According to what I read, everything should work. Doesn't. The entire unit SEEMS to mate up but won't close up the last 1/3 inch. I tried to draw it on by putting in a couple of the bolts but all that did was freeze up the unit. It just does not mate and I can't tell where it's hitting. Also, when I put the spline shaft on and attempt to actuate it with the shift lever, the shift lever will not go into place (although, when held up to the tractor, the spline shaft engages the drive). It really seems that the shaft is about ½ inch too long. Anyway, the entire B-project is in question. (Although, now that I've started it, I'd like to at least get the mechanics worked out.) The original plan was to mount a 72" Woods. I've mounted the Woods on my Super C while working the PTO issue and find that it's lots of work for the C. That leads me to conclude that the B would be way overworked. In fact, crosses my mind I should move the Woods to an H - and I'm really glad I've not yet installed the WFE I bought for the C. Sure is a different load from the 60" IH mower on the Super A I just sold. The IH mower was much lighter and seems flimsy in retrospect.

One of the great things about working on a tractor engine with your other half is that you know what he is thinking of at all times and can anticipate his every move and his next thought of what he will do. With Ben, anyway, I can tell! He'll be busy working and I’m handing him tools and he says, "give me that..." and I’ve already got it in his hand or "hand me that....."and I’ve got the portable light right where he needed it placed to see. "Run in the house and get me a...."as I open th
