The key point is to make sure the pan is straight.

They usually get bent by overtightening the bolts trying to stop a leak.

A little time with a framing square and a ball peen hammer can do wonders. Sometimes all that is required is ding the edges of the holes back to a flat condition.

Paper gaskets worked well for many years, but Form-a-gasket is easy, just read the instructions and avoid putting on too much or assembling too soon.
