Kelly, Don't know if you have checked this yet, but check the opening to the sediment bowl, if you have one. I put a new one on my Super M some years ago--a generic one from TSC--and this tractor ran like crap a long time. Couldn't figure out this aggravation until one day when the tank was empty, I removed the bowl and found the answer. The port that treads into the fule tank was nearly completely sealed due to a manufacturing flaw that left excess metal behind. I drilled it out and that ended the problem. I should have checked this way back when I bought it, but when something is fresh of the shelf, I tend to assume that it is ready for service. Shame on me :)

Oil Bath Air Filters - by Chris Pratt. Some of us grew up thinking that an air filter was a paper thing that allowed air to pass while trapping dirt particles of a particles of a certain size. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
