They both have strong points, and weak points when compaired to eachother. The 1066 was built to be functional rather than comfortable. It is a little less complicated, and much easier to work on. The shift linkage on the 66 is a better design than the 86 series in my opinion. The 1086 will have a nice tight air-condidtioned cab, but that cab makes it much harder to work on. Other improvements to the 86 series include- wet brakes, a heavier TA sprauge, a bigger fuel tank, and a heavier PTO clutch (although the 1066 probably has had that installed). Both tractors have DT-414 engines at 125-130 horsepower. Your 4240 is probably around 110. 4230 and 4240 were really more comparable to the 966 and 986.
