SM manifold drain hole???????stupid question

I have dumb question about M and SM exhaust manifolds. On the underside of the manifold on the square cast area there is a small hole corner that looks like it is cast there. Ive noticed this on all manifolds. On the SM Im currantly messing with I can spray wd40 down the exhaust pipe and it runs out the small hole. WHAT GIVES???Is it just rotted out??
