Ticking pump

I purchased a 1256 last year, cheap. It ticked when it was running (not moving). The dealer told me the previous owner rebuilt the engine, but the ticking remained. It stop running on me. I tore it down and found a rod bearing installed incorrectly. It had spun and seized. With the engine down I can turn the injector pump gear around I hear ticking. Should it do that? I don't want to finish this engine and find the ticking remains.
