Larry: Those should have been tightened to 500 ft/lbs of torque, so it takes a good 12 point socket preferably 3/4 drive. Some say you can loosen them by backing the wedge lock bolt off and hitting the end of the axle with a big hammer. I suggested some time ago on this forum, that if guys hadn't been hitting the axles with big hammers, they probably wouldn't be having so much axle bearing trouble. I rather doubt if the hammer will work if wedges were torqued to 500 ft/lbs to begin with. There was a clamp provived with each tractor, that forced both wedges to loosen. This should be clamped to one wheel or the other. IH just provided one clamp for each tractor and you had to change it from side to side.
