Both of these give a more accurate picture of "usable" horsepower. Drawbar hp in particular takes into account the amount of hp that is "wasted" in getting the tractor to move, which is a considerable amount. On a lawn tractor, the transmission, particularly a hydro transmission, can take up to a third of the tractor"s gross horsepower to operate it.
