I know the 560 had a ballast resistor in line to the 6-volt coil, so I’m guessing the 450 was similar. If you have a 12 volt coil you don’t need the resistor however… On the 560 there is a wire from the starter solenoid to the coil side of the resistor. This wire carries 12 volts to the 6-volt coil (bypasses the resistor) while the solenoid is engaged. As soon as the solenoid disengages, it returns to 6-volts to the coil. This was commonly called a 12 volt start-6 volt run system. Putting 12 volts to a 6-volt coil increases the spark for starting and the short duration does not adversely affect the ignition parts. The thought is that it will make starting easier. Hope this helps!
