Goose Creek Farms, yes you can prime and rub until you have the pits filled. I have used glazing putty as well for deep pits. We still can use lead oxide primers here in Ontario but I know they are not allowed in many states and provinces. I like to lay the "red lead" on thick, let it dry well and rub with very fine sandpaper. This will fill up pits quickly. There is a product called "feather fill" which sprays on and sands out real quick, there are likely other trade names for such product. Priming putty is available at Carquest and other auto parts stores. Priming putty needs to be cut with laquer thinner and put on in thin coats just as you put bondo on. make sure to let it dry thoroughly and it will sand out well. Then you can prime and give it a shine coat. It is better to get all the pits and marks with the prime coat and the final colour should go on without sanding and doing more body work. there are more experienced people than I when it comes to painting but I have restored several cars with good results using this method. Good luck from Mike in Exeter Ontario
