gas M vs diesel M engine rotation

There is a question that has been haunting me for years and in driving these tractors for years I never noticed but does the diesel engine of a MD turn the opposite direction of the gas version? Maybe everyone knows the answer except me, I do know that the exhaust is on the opposite side but wasn't sure and if so how do they handle PTO work and that would mean either a counter shaft or a totally different transmission setup. I figure there has to be some experienced IH mechanics that can set the record straight.
