In 10 years I have never had my regulators be anything but erratic. Doesn"t matter if we are talking about the old adjustables, or the new solid states. Wired in exactly as shown in the manual, but still they jump around between 4 to 8 volts. 6 Volt seems to be an average thing as usually the gauge passes by 6 a lot. I have replaced generators and manually redone every inch of wire wireharness. Makes no difference. My ring gear is almost smooth and I am too lazy to crack the tractor to replace it. Let"s hear it for cranks. :)
