I have a 544 that would do the same thing. my shifter is on the upper right hand side, i have forced the shifter back in whatever gear its stuck in or if your tractor has a plate at your feet,on my tractor this has a battery behind it. you can take it off take the battery out you will see three rods there. you need to pull up or down on the rod that is not even with the other two. this does take a little force to move. but it can be done and works.
