If you have the later style clutch type PTO there is no notch for the little lever (bottom of the linkage that you press with your thumb) to snap into when you engage the PTO, just one that it drops into when you shut it off and engage the PTO brake. The early style planetary style PTOs have a notch for the little lever when the unit is engaged and disengaged and PTO brake applyed. Hope this makes sense. BTW, Swartz (sp?) makes a pretty good aftermarket wide front.
