Glad to hear from a bunch of you, I thought my comment might spark some responses. Yes, when it gets below 0 I usually plug it in more to save the engine from the damage cold starting does than anything else. I use a time clock and have it set to heat about 4 hours before I plan to start it. I agree that the 282 wasn’t the greatest engine but my dad had a 560 Gas that he did custom corn shelling with until I bought the diesel. He used it once, and never used the gas again. See Allen’s response for most of the reasons. One event comes to mind when I was using the 560 D on the feeder wagon and plugged it in outside on a timer on a grain bin. It was about -15 F (honest) that afternoon. I got the M on the loader started (not plugged in) and then went to start the plugged in 560. It was terribly grouchy about starting. It took me three tries before it started even though it was plugged in. I couldn’t figure out why until I unplugged the engine heater and checked the hose coming out of it. The hose was as cold as the temp outside. The heater had burned out! True story!!! From what I’m hearing and have heard I have a rare one and I’m gonna keep it, thank you!

The thresher would bring in the harvest (and income) once a y
