Remember that the setting for the main jet screw for that carb is 5 turns out -- they are not adjusted like the H/M carb. So it is really a fixed jet that you can turn the screw in on for better economy. I have a Super H that did somewhat like you say, until I read the manual. I really don't think you need a NEW carb, unless the "rebuilt" one sat around for years and rusted. If the holes/ports, etc are shot, then you have had it--but I don't think so. I have heard that some of the jets, etc in the 460 carb are hard to get clean. If you have a "mechanic" (no sarcasm intended) looking at it, he should know what to look for and can easily determine whether or not it is the distributer.
