well i have a 706 with the 263 engine and that sounds about right. it didn"t matter what i was doing, 4-5 gallons an hour, light work or heavy. one thing i did that helped was start playing with the carb. when i"m doing light work around the house or cutting with the sickle mower or raking i lean it out a bit. at the recommended setting, i would have to stop and fill halfway through the day cutting hay. turn the mixture screw in one full turn from spec and now i can cut almost 2 days on a tank. tractor still runs cool and the plugs look good. there is a lack of power but cutting hay doesn"t require alot of power.
