Ernie Bob: No real problem in removing those PTO units. Just drive the tractor to a place where front wheels are about 3' below rear wheels. Just remove the 4 bolt that hold it in. By doing it this way you need not drain transmission. I used to do this with 300 and 560, in side there are two couplers and a short shaft. Those must be removed if you plan to use tractor while PTO is out. I had a cover made out of 3/4 plywood, bolt that over the hole and continued to use tractor while PTO was off being rebuilt. To me a tractor that could pull hay wagons may as well be in operation. I'm not so sure 300 and 400 PTOs are different, same piece of plywood with same holes covers the hole, in both 300 and 560.
