I definately agree with K.B. You'll underpower an 856 significantly with the 310. Awesome motor in the 706 and 756, though. 407 is what was original, and I wouldn't go under if I was going to do a engine replacement (or just placement, in your case). The 361 will bolt right in, true, and would make a lot of sense if you could get a good deal on one. A 436 or 466 would really make a machine out of an 856 though. I'd take the engine, make it as efficient as possible, and tune it about 130 horses. Good luck on making something work.
