Had a 460 that we used HARD for 30 years. Had that whine for 30 yrs. Seemed to be in the PTO break; when engaged PTO it was quieter. An Int mechanic once told me that it was better to leave PTO engaged at all times. I didn't - kind of got used to the houl.
