Sounds as though you've got some slop in the throttle linkage, same as I had. Most of it was in the handle, which had "egged out" - been a while, but as best I recall I ended up drilling it out a bit and bushing it - also seem to recall putting a larger roll pin in to hold it on. The increased RPM when hot also sounds normal. Mine doesn't throttle down all the way when hot like it does when cold. I wouldn't worry about it. Sounds to me as though you've got it adjusted just about right.
