Run a good quality oil and you'll have nothing to worry about. If you go over to "Bob is the Oil Guy" they did a test with it in gear oils and it foams like crazy. In low demand applications, like a lightly used tractor, it'd probably be okay but at that point why do you need it? Synthetics are probably way overkill in these old tractors too, the oils they started with were pretty primative so most any good dino oil today would be fine. I'm slowly changing my Super M over to detergent oil, eventually I'll end up on a good dino diesel oil like Delvac. I'm convinced that'll give good protection. Consider how long these machines ran with minimal maintenance and poor quality lubricants. Given what we have now they should last forever.
