A TA is a gear reduction device that is between the engine clutch and the tansmission. With the TA in the forward position you basically have direct drive between engine and trans. With the lever in the rear position (low side of the TA) the gear reduction is activated which reduce travel speed by about 30% or so. The main purpose of a TA is to get you throug a tough spot doing some sort of pulling (plowing, disking, pulling a hill ect.) or to reduce ground speed (baling, chopping ect) without having to change gears. (DO NOT HAVE THE TA IN THE BACK OR LOW SIDE IF YOU ARE GOING DOWN HILL OR TRY AND USE IT TO SLOW DOWN THE TRACTOR. THE TRACTOR WILL FREE WHEEL AND COULD DAMAGE THE TA)
