Aces has you pointed in the right direction. It is most likely you have a blocked orifice plug and orifice plug screen. The heating you are experiencing is from hydraulic oil being forced through the relief valve. As for the power steering? Can't explain that--this is a separate circuit with its own pump. However, if you do find that foreign material has blocked the hydraulic system's orifice plug and screen, then foreign material may have found its way into the PS pump. If this has happened, then it could be that crud is fouling the PS circuit, too. There is the possibility that the PS gunk (if any) may be screwing up the PS pump's relief. The PS relief is integral with the PS pump I believe. You will have to access the PS pump to do this obviously. This is very easy to do.
