According to Guy Fay's IH Tractor Data Book, the muffler was an option. You could get it with the pipe like you have (standard), a "spark arrester" or a muffler. I don't have any idea what a spark arrester even looks like. Seems to me I've seen one somewhere, but I must not've paid much attention.
