Serial number tag on the 300U is on the right side, between the oil filter and the gas strainer.

If you can't find or read the tag, IH used a date code on major parts, which looks like mm*dd*A. For this tractor, A = 1955, B = 1956.

Good-quality manuals are readily available from Binder Books (.com); at a minimum I'd recommend that you get an Operators Manual.
