Ashley: I can see where we have left you a bit in the dark. Starting in 1939 at beginning of production all Hs and Ms had band brakes. At some point and supposedly about the time the tractors came out as Supers all changed to disc brakes. There has always been some confusion as to just when this happened. I have no way of knowing at this date what the serial number of my dad's H. It did have disc brakes and the discs were same as 300. To throw a bit more confusion into this question, there was also an aftermarket company putting out disc brake conversion kits for Hs and Ms. I have forgotten the name at present. For these reasons I always recomend going to serial numbers both tractor and engine. The casting codes are also good indicator not only on age of tractor, but will quickly pickup on tractors that have been pieced together from two or more tractors. The Super H I mentioned in earlier post clearly had an H rear end, casting codes revealed that. A super H could also be changed to band brakes. There were and are still people who hate disc brakes enough to do the change. This was understandable as those first disc brakes were not user friendly.
