OK, I understand what the jumper is doing now. I'm playing with it more today, and now its not looking too great. With the RPMs up higher (which I didn't try before), I'm getting between 12 and 16V (and maybe more)! That can't be right. That's with the field grounded. I tried to wire up the lights just to see something work, and they did work until I turned up the RPMs, which of course blew the light bulbs. Can I adjust the 3rd brush to fix that? Or is it just a result of the crappy battery? Or did someone at some point replace the generator with a 12V version (I don't THINK anyone did that). Also, the L setting on the switch is an open circuit. Seems like the resistor is broken. Is it inside the switch somewhere? Lastly, the Dimmer coil for the lights doesn't seem to do anything. Its like .8 Ohms. That can't be what its supposed to be, right? Thanks
