The BKM is intersting- IH might have put this on replacement blocks for awhile but I thought they were usually blank- a W-6 would have WBKM, a U-6 UBKM, etc. Sometimes the stamp didn't hit square and one letter might not have struck. Sometimes something may have rubbed a letter out. Of course, maybe there was another letter on the tractor that you didn't see. Anyway, the BKM is essentially the type and size of the engine. No signifigance, other than IH was getting a combination of letters they hadn't used before! All of the single and double letter combinations were taken by then. X1 means a gas engine.
