Joe - Normally the ammeter will show 12 - 15 amps (1/2 to 3/4 scale) charge with the motor at full speed immediately after startup. Then as the battery nears full charge charge rate should drop to 3 - 4 amps or so (slight deflection to the right). If the battery is nearly fully charged the charge rate drop off should happen after just a few minutes after startup. However if the battery is down it could require several hours of running before the charge tapers off. Your low charge rate could be caused by an improperly adjusted 3rd brush in the generator. However if the battery seems to be starting the tractor OK it means it's already receiving an adequate charge at the reduced rate. You will probably be Ok just leaving it as it is.
