Whoa! Up here in New Hampshire I bought what I thought was a 1961 IH 240 Utility with a Husco loader off an exterior pump in front of the grill. Least that's what the Operator's Manual suggests along with what the seller told me. Problem is I can't match up anything that looks like the s/n with the International Model I-240 sn's in this website! Looks like the range for 1958-1962 IH 240s spreads from s/n 501 to 10727. Well, from the left side of the transmission housing, rear of the split, I can read the following number cast in relief: "369018 R1". In back of the shifter, on a top surface half under the seat this number is cast in relief: "369017 R1" which is one digit off. There is another number stamped into the L brake drum housing but there is a lot of flaking metal and paint and I can't quite make out the numbers/letters without a wirebrush. There is also some other number on the R side of the clutch housing, almost looks like it could be on a riveted plate but there are so many layers of yellow paint on the thing it looks like somebody laid it on with a trowel. Maybe I should also point out that the paint colors change dramatically right at the split, both yellow but one looking 'real' and the other washed out. Makes me wonder if I got the front end from one unit and the back end off another? Anyway I am trying to buy some gaskets for the axle housing etc and am getting kinda curious as to what I actually have here. Would appreciate any expert opinions or informed guesses! Thanks in advance.
