JRB: I question whether you have a voting affair. Most tractors were engineered to certain specifications, and we know the Farmalls all performed their tasks well. One guy argued the M would do everything the H would but not vice versa. I think maybe there are a few jobs the H may excell over the M. I know for sure the A will, on certain jobs. I farmed with 6 Farmalls and 1 Deere, the largest being a 1066 and smallest being the Super A, and by golly, you know we used them all. We never pulled a 20' disk or operated a forage harvester with the Super A, and we never mowed the lawn with 1066. Do you really know why there are so many good old H's and M's still around? The answer is simple, the diesels that followed in the next 10 years after them, made them so inefficient, farmers parked them for the most part.

On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
