The crank pulley nut is a standard right hand thread. Ordinarily it will unscrew without too much effort - though you need a 2-1/2" socket to get at it as you have discovered.

Suggest try heating it again. Use an acetylene torch and wrap the back side of the pulley with a wet towel to protect the seal area. Heat the nut so it's just beginning to turn red then get the socket on as quick as possible - it WILL loosen up!
