TA stands for Torque Amplifier. Basically in it was a saleable name for the ability to get more power without having to shift gears using the clutch. In the early models the TA used a planetary gear reduction that was actuated by pulling the TA lever without using the clutch to interrupt the power flow to the transmission. Pulling the lever released the direct drive clutch on the planetary housing allowing the planetary gears to rotate, thus reducing the speed of the input transmission shaft. This resulted in more pulling power in the selected transmission gear. This was a great advantage when doing heavy tillage as when a tough spot was encountered, more pulling power could be obtained without the need to use the clutch which would ultimately cause that tractor to stop and need to start the pull from a dead start. After the hard puling spot was past, the lever could again be released ahead without the use of the clutch. The later models used a hydraulic actuated clutch pack assembly that I have never worked with. If you want more details reply and I can explain more on how the planetary TA works.

A Belt Pulley? Really Doing Something? - by Chris Pratt. Belt Pulleys! Most of us conjure up a picture of a massive thresher with a wide belt lazily arching to a tractor 35 feet away throwing a cloud of dust, straw and grain, and while nostalgic, not too practical a method of using our tractors. While this may have been the bread and butter of the belt work in the past (since this is what made the money on many farms), the smaller tasks may have been and still can be its real claim to fame. The thresher would bring in the harvest (and income) once a y
