Yes. In a nutshell, Diesel engine oils have additives in them to handle the different combustion contaminants and higher compression ratios of diesel engines. Diesel engine oils are usually higher quality oils in comparison to gasoline engine oils and are generally more expensive. Do not use a gasoline engine oil in a diesel engine, at some time in the future you will (not may) be sorry. As far as I am aware, diesel engine oils are safe to run in gasoline engines, and I do run diesel oils in severe applications like my motorcycle where the transmission and engine share the same lubricant, and gasoline tractors.
