First check the pitman arm on the bottom of the gearbox it might just be loose and then take up the play on the tierods. That just may be all that is loose. The round ends on the joints can be ground with a small 4in grinder to remove the eggshapes as they are probably shaped now use a calipers when grinding and you can remove lots of play also. Taking apart the gearbox is last but it is easy to rebuild with the bushings and seals and maybe new bearings. The price on a worm and gear is not cheap.
