In your first post, you said the tractor would free wheel in neutral. If it will free wheel it is not in two gears.

Tow it like that, but shift the PTO lockout on the belly to disengage the PTO. Four miles is not so far.

You may have something broken. Does the torque amplifier seem to shift?
