After reading your post carefully: Some collectors fill the crankcase to prevent corrosion. Hydraulic oil is cheaper and will serve this purpose. Often this is done with JD tractors because they are to look at, not use. If this is the case, he is right, drain it and add motor oil to run it. Remember, there are more JD's in collections than IH's because the IH's are still earning their keep.
