Checking 400 hydraulic pump

I think my hydraulic pump on my 400 is bad. The pump has not been used for several years and I just put a loader on it and it will not pump any oil. Is there any way to check the pump? I heard there that I could take the plug out of the top of the pump and turn the ignition key and see if oil would pump out. Also, that I could put oil down in the same hole and maybe it would take prim. Does anyone have any other ideas? If the pump is bad can it be rebilt?
