The Mobil Rarus 427 has an ISO viscosity rating of 100, which is the same as SAE 30, so the weight of the oil should be ok. The only thing I can think of is that oil designed for internal combustion engines will have different stuff (detergents) in it compared to compressor oil that only has to lubricate. Seems you could get around this by adding your favorite engine detergent (Rislone?). Since you're burning a quart every 1k miles, seems like it would be worth trying. Might not want to chage your oil using it, but might be worth using to top off between changes.
