I guess there's an interesting story behind the "26" series tractors, but I don't know what it is. I've heard that the 826 was built to compete with the Deere 4000, an econo-box tractor, but that doesn't make sense, because IH produced "Custom" versions of the 756 and 856, which were stripped-down to make them less expensive to buy. I am thinking that maybe they were made for the European market, but failed there for some reason. The 826 was powered by the 358 German Diesel, and came in both gear and Hydro versions. The 1026 was powered by the 407 Diesel, and was hydro only. I've recently found out that even though the 826 looks like a 756, they aren't the same. The 826's hood height is closer to the 856, even though it has the emblem in the center of the grille.
